Carol Ann Rauen has thirty-nine years of experience in critical care, including roles as staff nurse, nurse clinician, nurse manager, critical care educator, clinical nurse specialist and assistant professor.  She has worked in Coronary Care, Surgical/Trauma/Burn ICUs, Cardiovascular ICU and the Emergency Department.  She practiced at the Univ. of Maryland, Univ. of Chicago, Medical College of Virginia, Williamsburg Community Hospital, the Washington Hospital Center, Inova Fairfax, Georgetown Univ. Medical Center, Outer Banks Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Orange Park Medical CenterCarol Ann works clinical in the SICU at Flagler Health Plus Hospital in St. Augustine, FL. She received her BSN and MS from the University of Maryland.  Her MS is in Trauma & Critical Care Nursing.  From 1992 - 2004 she worked at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.  For the first six years she was a clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager in the medical center and for the last six years as an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing & Health Studies.  Carol Ann currently serves as an independent critical care clinical nurse specialist and education consultant. She has published widely in the nursing literature, including eight book chapters in major critical care nursing texts, multiple journal articles and was the founding editor of the certification prep column in Critical Care Nurse.  Carol Ann is an experienced lecturer and nurse educator, having spoken at the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) National Teaching Institute (NTI) since 1992.  She received the Circle of Excellence Award from AACN in 2013, her CCRN certification in 1985 and has maintained certification since that time, her PCCN certification in 2006, CEN in 2011, ANCC Gerontological Nursing certification in 2013 and TCRN in 2018. She held the CCNS certification from 2003 – 2015.
