Overview

This course is designed for healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with tracheostomies. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on skills to differentiate between tracheostomies and laryngectomies, safely manage complex airway needs, prevent complications, and respond effectively to emergencies. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care. By the end of this course, learners will have an increased knowledge of airway emergencies and be able to demonstrate how to manage a tracheostomy tube during airway complications.


ANCC Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain how provider implicit bias can compromise communication and patient teaching.
  2. Articulate 3 tracheostomy care practices to prevent potential complications
  3. Demonstrate emergency management for an obstructed tracheostomy, an accidental tracheostomy tube decannulation, and a cardiac arrest for a tracheostomy.
