Overview

This Grand Rounds lecture aims to give APP Fellows the opportunity to describe primary pediatric cardiac and surgical issues in the field of process improvement. Topics include the foundational concepts of developing a PI project in healthcare including examples of pediatric-focused quality improvement projects to build on or provide the needed skills of implementing a QI project in an APP’s respective clinical practice setting and the potential impact and consequences of implicit bias as it relates to their Professional Projects. At the conclusion of the educational activity, 65% of participants will self-report an increase in knowledge of primary pediatric cardiac and surgical issues in the field of process improvement.

Learning Objectives


  1. Identify the background data and key stakeholders which influenced the decision to pursue the APP Fellows’ A3 process improvement project.
  2. Recognize the need for the described intervention and opportunities for outcome measures for each APP Fellow project.
  3. Acknowledge the potential impact and consequences of implicit bias as it relates to the APP Fellows’ Professional Projects
  4. Describe potential next steps of the work and consider application of these PI projects’ processes to their own clinical settings.
