Overview

Exclusive to Stanford Health Care & Stanford Children's Health (LPCH) Employees

This 3 hour workshop is designed for the Advanced Practice Provider who is interested in becoming a preceptor to either an APP Fellow, a new APP and/or an APP student. The workshop is designed as an introductory course to the role of the preceptor as well as a review for seasoned preceptors. Participants will learn about the role of the preceptor in assisting fellows, new graduates, or students in becoming competent and effective professional providers by utilizing appropriate adult teaching styles and effective communication strategies. The goal of the workshop is to provide participants tools and strategies to facilitate an effective precepting relationship with awareness of their biases.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify the importance of reviewing learning styles with preceptees.
  2. Define a couple of precepting method useful for high demand, busy in-patient or out-patient settings.
  3. Describe a couple of effective feedback delivery methods.
  4. Discuss how one's own unintended biases may affect precepting.

AAPA Objectives
  1. Self-report gain knowledge of teaching and communication tools which can be applied to their practice as a preceptor.
  2. Self-report gained knowledge of teaching and communication tools which can be applied to their practice as a preceptor.
