Preceptor Discussion Forum April 2025: Essential Teaching Strategies

Preceptor Discussion Forums are designed for active preceptors who have completed the SHC Preceptor Development Workshop. This quarter, preceptors will explore ways to enhance their teaching skills and foster a positive, inclusive environment for preceptees through discussion, reflection, and scenario-based activities. By the end of this forum, preceptors will be able to discuss strategies to foster engagement and skill development to promote clinical reasoning and critical thinking and recognize and address implicit biases in their teaching practices.

1. Discuss adult learning principles and strategies to adapt teaching methods to the diverse learning styles and needs of preceptees, promoting engagement and skill development
2. Describe strategies to promote clinical thinking and clinical reasoning
3. Identify potential implicit biases one own’s teaching practices and discuss strategies to mitigate them
