Overview

This webinar will present two grant awardees sharing their innovative research findings funded by the Stanford Nurse Alumnae Legacy Grant and conducted at Stanford Health Care.

Carlene Lugtu will present on her study,  "Inbox Overload to AI Empowered: Reframing Ambulatory Workflows for the Future”. She will present on how Registered Nurses and Medical Assistants perceive workload and burnout related to the ambulatory care in-basket, and how emerging AI tools may help reduce cognitive burden and enhance healthcare delivery.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the perceived workload and burnout experienced by Registered Nurses and Medical Assistants related to managing the in-basket in ambulatory care settings.

  • Discuss how the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools could reduce cognitive burden and improve efficiency in healthcare delivery.

  • Identify potential implicit biases in how workload, technology design, and innovation efforts often overlook the experiences and contributions of RNs and MAs in ambulatory care.

Darvin Antonio will present on his study, "Relationship between EHR documentation burden and burnout among inpatient RNs." He will explore the association between nurse’s perceptions of documentation burden and burnout on different EHR platforms. At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the contribution of documentation burden to nurse burnout among inpatient nurses performing head-to-toe assessments and blood administration.

  • Describe the impact of EHR platform choice (desktop vs. mobile) on documentation burden and burnout domains.

  • Discuss the need for EHR optimization, including platform selection, to reduce documentation burden and support nurse well-being.
