This lecture provides an overview of the APP role in pediatric rheumatology, with a focus on the complex diagnosis and management of PANS/PANDAS. Given the rarity and evolving evidence surrounding PANS/PANDAS, the session emphasizes evidence-based assessment, appropriate diagnostic workups, treatment options, and interprofessional collaboration. By the end of this session, learners will gain knowledge of the core clinical features, differential diagnoses, and evidence-based management of PANS/PANDAS.

Learning Objectives


  1. Participants will be distinguish PANS/PANDAS from other childhood-onset OCD/tics disorders
  2. Participants will create a treatment plan for new onset PANDAS management
  3. Participants will be able to counsel families on behavioral strategies to support patients and families during flare episodes
  4. Acknowledge the potential impact and consequences of implicit bias when evaluating a patient who presents with PANS/PANDAS
