Overview

A preceptor functions as a teacher, advocate, and role model in guiding, directing and overseeing the clinical practice of the preceptee. During this half-day online course, the Professional Practice model will serve as an overarching framework for discussion topics that include adult learning theories, leadership styles, teaching strategies, communication and feedback strategies, socialization and transition for a successful preceptor/preceptee relationship.

Considering current events, we will not be holding our Preceptor Workshop in person on March 27, 2020. We will be moving the Preceptor Workshop to a 4 hour Zoom meeting platform instead from 0800-1215.

Your role as a preceptor is essential and we want to make sure you are set up for success with the right tools – especially during this time.

**For the session, you will need a computer and internet access to view the meeting. Instructions on how to login will be emailed upon registration.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss the functional role of preceptor from Role Based Practice perspective
  2. Recognize the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor
  3. Identify how the role of the Preceptor aligns with the Professional Practice Model
  4. Demonstrate clinical teaching strategies to use with preceptees
  5. Compare learning theories in adult learners
  6. Summarize how to provide effective and constructive feedback on performance
  7. Describe the process to assess and meet the preceptee's learning needs
  8. Explain how to apply Just Culture philosophy in the preceptor/preceptee relationship
  9. Discuss techniques to promote constructive communication between specific learner populations and the preceptor
  10. Identify strategies to support the preceptee in the socialization process
