Part 1: BLS Online HeartCode® eLearning course

Heartcode BLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.  Heartcode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s BLS course. Blended learning is a combination of part 1: eLearning, online course in which a student completes part of the course online, followed by part 2: hands-on skills session in person.

Target Audience: 

Heartcode BLS is for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of pre-hospital and in-facility settings.

Course Length:

Heartcode BLS takes students approximately one hour to two hours to complete, depending on their level of experience.  Students can log in and out as many times as they choose. However, the written exam must be taken in one sitting.

Minimum technical requirements are available at https://elearning.heart.org/static/technicalspecs.  Customers may contact the AHA Customer Support Center at 888-242-8883 or [email protected] for technical assistance. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Central Time.

How to Access and Complete the Heartcode BLS course:

• After successful registration, the CEPD staff will email your Heartcode online course link within 48 business hour
• Your link will be emailed the following business day if you register over the weekend or during holiday closures
• Heartcode links will be sent to your email in your profile and cannot be re-sent to a different email 
• The email will appear in your inbox from [email protected]
  
• Online course MUST be completed prior to your hands-on skills check session
• Print a copy of your certificate of completion to check-in to your hands-on skills check session

How to Complete Part 2: BLS Hands-On Skills Check:

You will need to sign up separately for your BLS hands-on skills check.  Pre-registration is required.  We are currently offering hands-on skills check's at the following locations.

BLS Only:

• 300P Atrium, Stanford Hospital
• CEPD Training Center, 1850 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto

BLS same day as your ACLS renewal class:

• BLS skills check add on to ACLS renewal (full day classroom course), CEPD Training Center, 1850 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto
• BLS skills add on same day as your ACLS skills check:  BLS skills is automatically included the ACLS skills check
