Managing Workplace Violence and Escalating Behaviors in the Health Care Setting: Recognizing, Mitigating, and Reporting Emerging Threats

Healthcare professionals may experience crisis situations at work which may require quick action. This program will focus on de-escalation techniques and crisis interventions which could be applied during unexpected work situations. This program, presented by Stanford Health Care Security Service is open to all SHC employees.

1. Define workplace violence and contributing factors.
2. Identify de-escalation techniques to use in a workplace violence situation.
3. Describe appropriate healthcare professional interventions in each of the crisis levels describe in this presentation.
4. Discuss how unintended biases may affect how we handle a workplace violence situation and discuss ways to mitigate those biases.
