Overview
This session will review the potential impact and consequences of implicit bias in CHD research and clinical practice. It will guide the learner on how to understand the importance of behavioral and neurocognitive concerns in children with congenital heart defects across the lifespan. By the end of the session, the learner will be able to appreciate the importance of early identification of risk factors for this population and learn how to optimize neurocognitive outcomes for children with congenital heart defects.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe how implicit bias may impact a patient assessment and discuss strategies that can be used by the provider to minimize their effect in the clinical setting.
  2. Self report they are able to apply the knowledge learned in today's session to practice.
  3. Discuss how the Advanced Practice Provider role contributes to better patient outcomes.
