Overview

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (4/29/2021):  Due to construction, we will not be offering BLS skills checks at 300P Atrium until further notice.  The location has been moved to CEPD Training Center at 1850 Embarcadero Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94303.

SHC offers BLS skills in-person and HeartCode course online combination. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online, followed by a hands-on skills session. The hands-on skills session is completed in person with an AHA Instructor.

The date you register for is the date you will attend your in-person skills assessment.  Your BLS HeartCode link will be emailed within 48 business hours after you sign up.

This course is for current BLS certified individuals and those who have expired cards.  HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program.  Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making.  BLS Online consists of a cognitive portion that is completed online before attending your scheduled skills session.

The course incorporates the 2020 AHA Guidelines and is structured as follows:

  • Online adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance
  • Format utilizes a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities
  • Students schedule an in-person one hour skills assessment using high fidelity manikins with real-time audio and visual feedback. Skills assessment with an AHA Instructor is required to earn a valid AHA BLS Provider e-Card that is valid for two years.
  • No written exam required the BLS HeartCode online certificate of completion is required to attend the in-person skill assessment.
  • Please note that CEs are provided directly from the AHA and will be available in your e-learning account upon online course completion.

For more detailed information see the course brochure.

How it Works:

     1.  Register

     2.  You will be emailed your BLS HeartCode online course link within 48 business hours from [email protected]

     3.  Complete your online course and print a copy of your certificate of completion

     4.  Attend your scheduled hands-on skills session. Bring the copy of your certificate to check-in.  The skills check session is 1 hour.

     5.  After completing the hands-on skills check, your new BLS eCard will be emailed to you within 2 weeks and no later than the last day of the month

Please Note:

  • You may only register for one date.  If already registered in a session, you will need to cancel your existing registration before signing up for a new date. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration as soon as possible to allow others the opportunity to register.
  • Per AHA guidelines, we do not offer combined ACLS and BLS skills assessments.
  • ACLS is a separate class, you will need to sign up for a different time as close to your BLS appointment as possible. Click here to proceed to ACLS:  ACLS HeartCode Online & Skills Check class registration.
  • If you sign up for both ACLS and BLS at the same timeslot, you will need to choose one skills check option and reschedule the other to a different time slot on the next available class date.
  • If a class date is no longer visible on the checkout form (after you click the register button) the class is full and no longer accepting registrations. No wait list available.
