Overview

The complaint of chest pain in the adult patient population typically is an indication of an ischemic event related to coronary arterial disease. However, not all chest pain is related to acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Using a case study approach, the complaint of chest pain and difficulty breathing will be examined. Pathophysiology, assessment findings, pharmacology and treatment options related to to the following cardiac related diagnoses will be reviewed: acute heart failure, cardiomyopathy, acute pulmonary edema, cardiac tamponade, hypertensive crisis, acute aortic dissection and chest trauma. 

This is a virtual class via Zoom.

**This will be a live webinar and you will need a computer with internet access to view the meeting. Instructions on how to login will be emailed upon registration.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss how unintended biases may contribute to the assessment of chest pain in different populations.
  2. Identify modifiable and non-modifiable cardiac risk factors.
  3. Differentiate between stable and unstable angina.
  4. Discuss the differing signs and symptoms of cardiac emergencies.
