Advanced Practice Provider Preceptor Development Workshop

This 3 hour workshop is designed for the Advanced Practice Provider who is interested in becoming a preceptor to either an APP Fellow, a new APP and/or an APP student. The workshop is designed as an introductory course to the role of the preceptor as well as a review for seasoned preceptors. Participants will learn about the role of the preceptor in assisting fellows, new graduates, or students in becoming competent and effective professional providers by utilizing appropriate adult teaching styles and effective communication strategies. The goal of the workshop is to provide participants tools and strategies to facilitate an effective precepting relationship with awareness of their biases.

1. Identify the role of the preceptor.
2. Discuss appropriate adult teaching styles to use in precepting.
3. Describe effective communication/feedback strategies
4. Verbalize the difference between implicit and explicit biases.

3. This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to apply for 3 AAPA Category 1 CME credits from the AAPA Review Panel. The total number of approved credits is yet to be determined.
