Overview

Exclusive to Stanford Health Care & Stanford Children's Health (LPCH) Employees

This course features an engaging combination of concepts and practical skills within the realm of disaster medicine and system-level disaster response. Learners will use case studies to build on their foundation of disaster knowledge, get a foundational introduction to the Hospital Incident Command System, special populations planning, and improve their own personal disaster preparedness at home and at work. The workshop will include hands on sessions which will feature lessons in hospital disaster triage, mass casualty management, stop the bleed, and resiliency. This course is appropriate for all clinical disciplines and is not limited to Emergency Medicine or Trauma only. The course is open to all healthcare team members who would like to learn more about how to be ready to respond to disasters.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss disaster response frameworks, including medicine concepts, including the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and the principles of coordinating health system-level responses to disasters.
  2. Develop practical skills for planning and responding to the unique needs of vulnerable populations during disasters, focusing on strategies that accommodate diverse specialties.
  3. Apply knowledge and tools presented in the session to improve personal preparedness and response skills.
