Overview
Preceptor Discussion Forums are designed for active preceptors who have completed the SHC Preceptor Development Workshop. This quarter, we will delve into the critical theme of enhancing communication skills to effectively guide and support preceptees. Through engaging practical exercises and interactive group discussions, we will explore essential strategies for giving and receiving feedback, fostering receptiveness to constructive feedback, and understanding the impact of implicit bias on communication dynamics. By the end of the forum, participants will be equipped with key communication tools and strategies to enhance effective communication and collaboration between preceptors and preceptees. *This will be a live webinar and you will need a computer with internet access to view the meeting. Instructions on how to login will be emailed upon registration.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
65% of participants will be able to state key communication tools and strategies to promote effective communication and collaboration between preceptor and preceptee Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate giving constructive and positive feedback and describe how to establish a safe environment for feedback
  2. List communication strategies to address a preceptee who is not meeting competency requirements.
  3. Discuss receptive feedback strategies and describe how to integrate into personal and professional growth.
  4. Recognize how implicit bias influences communication, and its impact on interactions with preceptees, colleagues and patients.
