The lectures and time allotment are based on the exam content outline and will cover all body systems, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment strategies and treatment options that are unique for nursing care of older adults.

This course will benefit those who have community, primary, long-term and acute care experience in the care of our growing aging population. In addition to reviewing the knowledge needed to successfully pass the Gerontological Nursing Certification Exam this course will also provide an update on best practice in the care of older adults. The teaching strategies utilized are interactive, engaging, and promote clinical application.

This course is recommended for nurses with at least one year of practice with caring for patients over the age of sixty-five. The purpose of this course is to help nurses successfully plan to take the ANCC Gerontological Nursing Certification Exam or for a clinical practice review. This course will also benefit health care providers who have community, primary, long-term and acute care experience in the care of our growing aging population and will also provide an update on best practice in the care of older adults.

**For the session, you will need a computer and internet access to view the meeting. Instructions on how to login will be emailed upon registration.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the nursing care needs of the younger and older adult as they relate to pathologies, care planning, and pharmacology.
  2. Discuss the evidence based practice guidelines for holistic care of older adults.
  3. Discuss how to answer questions that may be on the Gerontological Nursing Certification test.
  4. Identify the gerontological nursing roles and goals in the community, long-term care, primary care, acute care and palliative care environments.
