Employees may experience violence in their workplace, yet they are not always equipped with the knowledge, skills or tools to transform the situation into a healthy environment. In this educational session, attendees will learn about the types of violence that may occur in the workplace and techniques which can be use when faced with such situations. The session will provide practical ways for healthcare providers on how to move through conflict using effective communication tools. The program is geared towards all healthcare providers in all specialties. By the end of the class, participants will self-report a gain in knowledge and skills of effective communication tools which can be applied when navigating through conflict in the healthcare environment.


ANCC Learning Outcomes

65% of participants will report an intent to change practice by using communication tools learned from the educational activity.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the concepts of Caring Science in relating to challenging interpersonal situations.
  2. Identify 3 mindful techniques to maintain therapeutic engagement.
  3. Explain how implicit bias can adversely influence effective communication
  4. Demonstrate the use of two nonviolent communication tools to effectively manage conflict.
