Overview

This course will provide essential elements and practices for research studies. Topics in this session will include: Where to start with the literature review process, with a high-level overview of resources at Lane Library for research. How to effectively interpret research articles and determine if the articles provide good evidence to support the clinical question. How to use a PICO question and measure research outcomes. How to capture data, regulatory requirements, and data management. How to best disseminate the final study with new knowledge. Discuss successful research study examples. By the end of the session, the attendee will have gained knowledge about how to begin the research process. The target audience for this course includes all level healthcare providers who want to learn more about the process of completing a research study and resources available.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the basics of literature review and the resources available.
  2. Articulate how to read research articles and interpret the information in them.
  3. Outline how to develop a PICO question and narrow down the research focus.
  4. Give examples of how to appropriately manage the research project.
  5. Discuss how to capture and store data to protect subjects.
  6. Illustrate with examples how to capture the correct outcomes.
  7. Describe the process of research dissemination.
