Overview

**For Stanford Health Care & Stanford Children's Health (LPCH) Employees**

This course is an introduction to the field of research and equips learners with foundational knowledge and skills to support the planning, design, and implementation of research studies. Designed for healthcare professionals at all levels , the  course explores literature searching, development of research aims, quantitative, qualitative and mixed method study designs, the emerging  role of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare research, and the ethical and regulatory requirements  for protecting human research participants.  

For the best learning experience, participants are encouraged to complete the modules alongside the Research Primer Workbook as corresponding workbook activities are integrated through the course. 

To attain a CE certificate you are required to complete the modules, workbook, pass the post-test and complete an evaluation. 


ANCC Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will self-report an increase in knowledge of the essential steps involved in how to plan, design, and execute research studies.

  1. Identify how to conduct comprehensive literature searches using resources available at Lane Library. (Knowledge)
  2. Develop the ability to formulate well-structured research questions and specific aims. (Skill)
  3. Gain insight into different research designs, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. (Knowledge)
  4. Acquire an understanding of ethical principles, regulatory compliance, and guidance for protecting human research participants. (Knowledge)
