Overview
Pelvic health issues such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic pain are critical yet often overlooked concerns that affect a significant number of individuals, particularly women, in our community. As healthcare professionals—including RNs, PTs, NPs/PAs, and ancillary staff—it is essential to recognize the high prevalence of these conditions and the unmet needs they represent. Many patients suffer in silence due to stigma and a lack of integrative care, which can lead to a cycle of discomfort and diminished quality of life. By increasing our clinical knowledge and fostering collaboration across specialties, we can raise awareness of these commonly experienced pelvic issues among both men and women. This includes understanding the interconnectedness of bladder and bowel complaints and developing comprehensive approaches to their management. Ultimately, our goal is to empower allied health professionals with the information and resources they need to appropriately identify and manage these conditions.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss the signs and symptoms of patients with pelvic pain.
  2. Describe the risk factors and treatment of the patient with fecal incontinence and constipation.
  3. Identify the diagnostic options for bladder symptoms associated with stress urinary incontinence and bladder pain syndrome.
  4. Discuss medical management of pelvic pain.
  5. Identify implicit bias in clinical practice and how to address implicit bias.
  6. Explain the role of the APP in a multidisciplinary clinic.
