Overview

This webinar will present three Stanford Nurse Leaders sharing their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) projects and reflections on how advanced nursing education has shaped their ability to lead, innovate, and transform health care.

Dr. Jaliza Johnson will present on "Cultivating a Sense of Belonging and Peer Support through Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Education," an evidence-based quality improvement project aimed at enhancing the sense of belonging and peer support among New Graduate Registered Nurses at Stanford Health Care (SHC).

Dr. Denise Shaw will present on "Doctor of Nursing Practice: From Preparation to Impact" and discuss reflections on how the DNP experience enhanced her work as a nurse leader.

Dr. Lisa Cianfichi will present on "Identifying Presumed Obstructive Sleep Apnea at the Outpatient Surgery Center," a quality improvement initiative at Stanford Health Care’s Redwood City Outpatient Surgery Center that integrated STOP-BANG screening into the electronic health record and advanced practice provider workflow to identify presumed obstructive sleep apnea amid increasing patient volume and surgical complexity.

ANCC Learning Outcomes

65% of participants will self-report an increase in knowledge of how earning a DNP impacts leadership in nursing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify internal resources and ways to support belonging within SHC
  2. Recognize the importance of belonging and peer support
  3. Describe how the Nurse Leader Fellowship project identified and addressed a critical organizational gap
  4. Evaluate the outcomes of the newly developed onboarding program using qualitative and quantitative data.
  5. Identify key lessons learned from designing and implementing the onboarding program
  6. Identify perioperative risks associated with presumed obstructive sleep apnea in ambulatory surgery patients using standardized STOP-BANG screening.
  7. Describe the integration of STOP-BANG screening into the electronic health record and advanced practice provider workflow to support consistent preoperative assessment.
  8. Recognize how implicit bias may influence preoperative risk identification and explain how standardized screening promotes equitable, evidence-based care across diverse patient populations.
