Overview

**For Stanford Health Care & School of Medicine Employees**

Working with individuals experiencing psychosis can be challenging, particularly when symptoms such as hearing voices, paranoia, or fixed delusional beliefs interfere with communication and treatment engagement. This course provides front-line healthcare providers with practical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp)-informed skills that can be used in inpatient settings to foster therapeutic relationships, support de-escalation, encourage collaboration, and help patients manage distressing symptoms.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. By the end of the event, learners will gain knowledge of the FIRST Skills (a set of CBTp-informed approaches) and will have identified several concrete tools to support patients experiencing psychosis in an inpatient setting.

Behavioral And Learning Objectives
  1. Differentiate common myths from the realities of psychosis and identify three symptoms commonly associated with psychosis.
  2. Develop a SMART goal for working with a patient experiencing psychosis and apply CBT principles to support front-line clinical interactions.
  3. Apply the FIRST Skills framework to support individuals experiencing psychosis in inpatient clinical settings.
  4. Recognize how implicit biases and assumptions about individuals with psychosis may influence clinical decision-making and apply person-centered, trauma-informed strategies to promote equitable care.
